Curriculum of studies
As CICS completes 26 years of
communications training, with its unique contribution of interdisciplinary
communication studies which links it with theology, philosophy social sciences
etc, next year the following programmes are announced:
-
A two year
Interdisciplinary Masters programme in communications of only
communication subjects, with 120 European system credits (ECTS). Whoever
has a Bachelorate degree in theology, philosophy or social sciences or has
an equivalent in humanistic studies can be admitted to this programme. This
is a terminal MA and cannot continue to a doctoral programme. Whoever does
not have a background in theology, philosophy etc will have to take as
many as 15 extra credits in courses in theology, ethics etc that the
Director suggests.

There is also a one year
Diploma programme with 60 European system credits (ECTS), for those who
have not done BA in any subject. Whoever does not have a background in
theology, philosophy etc will have to take as many as 12 extra credits in
courses in theology, ethics etc that the Director suggests. This diploma
programme is available also to students from other faculties and
institutes with an extra registration and with the permission of the
dean\president. Such students can have “a licentiate in the faculty with a
Diploma in communications”

In the faculty of Social
Sciences one can also do communications studies: a 3-years Ist cycle (BA -
which can be shortened depending on the candidates qualifications) and a
2-years, IInd cycle (Master) after which one can be qualified to start the
III Cycle (doctorate) . Those with no BA in any subject opt for the 3-year
Ist cycle, those with a BA in Social Science or in communications can opt
for the IInd cycle.

Doctorates in Communication
can be obtained in different faculties at the Gregorian by doing a
licentiate in a faculty and choosing a communication topic related to that
faculty. To qualify for this, students do a diploma in communications with
no less than 60 European system credits (ECTS) taken from more theoretical
courses.
5. Students from other
faculties at the Gregorian are welcome to do the Diploma (no. 2 above)
during their II or III cycle.

Students from other
faculties at Gregorian are also welcome to take up theory courses in
communications at no extra cost. Students from other universities are also
welcome to take up theory courses in communications, and they pay the
normal university fees for each course.
Courses Taught
Courses
that link communications with theology, philosophy, missiology, social
sciences, spirituality etc so that the students get a complete view of
communications and its utility in our pastoral work
Other
courses include: Ethics
of the media, Theology of communication, Pastoral Communication, Development
Communication, Bible and Communication, Mission and Communication,
Philosophy of communication, Psychology of communication, Semiotics, Media
Aesthetics, Media Education, Spirituality of communication, Sociology of the
media and journalism, Basic communication and audience theories,
In the
European system these courses are also taught:
Media e construction of social realties,
Communication, economics and the process of globalization, Communication and
innovation in media: new perspectives, Science of public opinion, Media
Marketing etc.
Besides,
of course, the language and techniques of the media and modern
technologies in particular.
Students can also
undergo at least a month-long internship each in the I and II cycles at a
reputed media institution.
They also
write dissertations of a certain length, on a media-related issue in both
the cycles.
