The Pontifical Gregorian University

To consult the Web page: Audience of Pope Francis. Vatican State, Thursday 10 April 2014

The fundamental characteristic of the Pontifical Gregorian University is that of a Pontifical Ecclesiastical University entrusted by the Holy See to the Society of Jesus, a commission which Benedict XVI confirmed again in 2006.

Formation is crucial responsibility in our time that is characterized by the clarity of discernment, a courage backed by intelligence and a trust in the Spirit of God. More

We remember how Pope Francis invited our Institutions to preserve their historical vitality, making ourselves responsible for the present and looking at the future "with creativity and imagination, trying to have a comprehensive view of the situation and current challenges and a common way to deal with them, finding new ways without fear".

Since 1930 the Pontifical Gregorian University has been located at Piazza della Pilotta, 4 - Rome (Italy).

In 1551, St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, opened a "Schola grammaticae et humanitatis pro iuvenibus" in Rome. Within a short span of time, it became the Roman College and in 1556 started conferring academic degrees according to pontifical norms.
