In Memory - Fr. Linus Kujur, S.J.

On the morning of Thursday, 14 October, Fr Linus Kujur S.J., professor at the Faculty of Missiology, returned to the house of the Father. His funeral will be celebrated - together with that of Fr Jacquineau Azétsop S.J. - on Saturday 16 October, at 10am, at the Church of St Ignatius in Rome. It will be possible to join in prayer at the ceremony in live streaming.

P. Kujur had renal transplantation a few years ago, which, although successful, had left him with some fragility and very low immune defences. In recent weeks, the Covid-19 infection had worsened his condition, causing progressive dysfunction of vital organs. "Known by colleagues and students for his kindness, calmness and helpfulness, Fr Kujur was an example for the way he faced the disease, always with great trust in his caregivers. In this way, he showed his trust in God the Father, to whom we now entrust him", wrote the Rector, Fr Nuno da Silva Gonçalves, S.J., to the University Community.

Fr Kujur received his Baccalaureate in Theology from the Gregorian University, as well as his Licentiate and Doctorate in Missiology. In 1993 he published a doctoral dissertation entitled "The sacramental celebration of the rites of passage in the Uraon culture: a case study of liturgical inculturation". Kujur began teaching at the Pontifical Gregorian University in the Faculty of Missiology in the academic year 2008-2009. In 2015 he was appointed Academic Coordinator of the Centre for Interreligious Studies at the Gregorian University, which was established in the same year, and to whose development he had actively contributed, offering courses that embraced the areas of his expertise and vast experience.

We pray with confidence for Fr Kujur as an expression of our gratitude for his service to the Church and for his teaching in our University.
