A Catholic and Jewish Perspectives on the Land Promise and its Contemporary Significance

In the last 50-60 years, the Jewish-Christian dialogue has seen a succession of incredible steps forward, some almost unimaginable a few decades ago. However, much must be done and much is still possible.

The "Cardinal Bea" Centre for Judaic Studies of the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Thomistic Institute of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas join forces to offer a perspective on the next steps in Jewish-Christian relations, proposing two conferences.

The second evening, entitled "A Catholic and Jewish Perspective on the Land Promise and its Contemporary Significance ", will see Prof. Gavin D'Costa (University of Bristol) and Rav David Rosen (American Jewish Committee) debate - in the form of a dialogue - about the Land Promise, complex theme rarely touched on because of its sensitive historical-political nature, but essential because of its central importance both for the Jewish People and in the Hebrew Bible. Professor D'Costa will explore the possibility of going beyond the juridical position towards the "Jewish people living in the land that is called Israel", to a theological affirmation of Israel. Rav David Rosen will illustrate the importance of the Land of Israel within the biblical and rabbinic tradition, arguing for its permanent significance for the Jewish People.
