Dante e la poesia di Dio

Once again on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's death, the Faculty of Philosophy is promoting a commemorative evening entitled, "Dante and the Poetry of God." In the first part, Doctor Giorgio Verola, Notary Public by profession and Humanist by vocation, will proceed to an analysis of the triplet of Paradiso XXXIII, vv. 94-96 where the Supreme Poet describes God in the guise of a divine and sparkling point. The focus of the presentation is the notion of point in medieval theology and philosophy, which aims to generate an innovative reading of the triplet and to explain the devolution of God's geometry in the creation of Paradise.

In the second part, Msgr. Mario Pangallo, Professor of the Faculty of Philosophy, will speak on "Poetic Theology and Philosophy in Dante Alighieri" also with reference to Giulio D'Onofrio's volume, Per questa selva oscura. La teologia poetica di Dante (Città Nuova Editrice, Rome 2020). Issues such as that of Christian Neo-Platonism and theological exemplarism, the role of the Aristotelianism of St. Albert the Great and Thomas Aquinas, and, of course, the importance of the triad essentia-potentia-actus in Dante's thought will thus be highlighted. The evening will be moderated by Fr. João Vila-Chã, also a Professor of the Faculty of Philosophy.
