- Gli incontri di ARCHIVUM
On Friday, March 10, the second appointment of the permanent seminar on the History of the Papacy organized by the journal Archivum Historiae Pontificiae will be held.
On this occasion Caterina Cappuccio, from the University of Wuppertal, will give a lecture entitled "The Papal Chapel: origin and development of an institution of the Roman Curia (12th-13th centuries)." The focus of his talk will be the birth of the Papal Chapel, an important instrument established by the Papacy after the ecclesiastical reform of the 11th century to take care of relations with local churches.
This new institution responded to the transformation of the Catholic Church from an "episcopal" Church to a Church centered on the authority of the Apostolic See (as pointed out by R. Schieffer). In particular, the scholar will analyze the evolution of the Papal Chapel based on the study of the biographies of papal subdeacons and chaplains, identifying their functions and tasks.
