Il Comando Carabinieri Tutela Patrimonio Culturale e la protezione dei Beni Culturali della Chiesa

Cultural assets of religious interest constitute a huge part of our nation's cultural heritage. A heritage made up of res that also have inestimable cultural value, to which is subordinate the value attributed to them by the mission of which they are called to be instruments: worship, catechesis, charity. They permanently define-material and visible-the faith and identity of a people and the Church's journey through the centuries.

A heritage huge in numbers and with a widespread diffusion throughout the country, from big cities to small mountain villages and, for this reason, very fragile, in need of being preserved, protected and experienced, and possibly not museified because they are not "relics of extinct civilizations."

Therefore, it seems useful to be able to learn more about the Comando Carabinieri Nucleo Tutela Patrimonio Culturale, founded in 1969, which "carries out tasks concerning the security and safeguarding of the national cultural heritage through the prevention and repression of violations of the legislation for the protection of cultural and landscape heritage."

The CC Comando Tutela Patrimonio Culturale has always had a special focus on cultural heritage of religious interest, as is also evidenced by the drafting of the very useful "Guidelines for the Protection of Ecclesiastical Cultural Heritage," produced in collaboration with the Italian Bishops' Conference and the Ministry of Culture.

"A document that draws on the experience gained in over forty years of activity in safeguarding works of art to suggest the best measures to ensure the protection of ecclesiastical cultural heritage, whose peculiar value exceeds artistic excellence. A valuable work, which - I am sure - will be a valuable support for the activities of parish priests and church rectors in protecting the property entrusted to their care" (Gen. Mossa).
