RIPENSARE BELLARMINO TRA TEOLOGIA, FILOSOFIA E STORIA

International Conference on the Fourth Centenary of the death of St. Roberto Bellarmino S.J. (1621-2021)

Robert Bellarmine, Saint and Doctor of the Church, was a professor and rector of the Roman College, of which the Pontifical Gregorian University is heir and successor.
On the fourth centenary of his death, the Pontifical Gregorian University organises a conference entirely devoted to him.

The conference, entitled Rethinking Bellarmine Between Theology, Philosophy and History, will take place on November 17-19, 2021.  This initiative will be supported by the Dioceses and the Municipalities of Montepulciano and Capua, places where Bellarmine was, respectively, born and carried out his episcopal ministry.  Fairfield University, which has S. Robert Bellarmine as its patron, and the Gregorian University Foundation, will be the main sponsors of the conference.

The figure of St. Robert Bellarmine is the object of continuous interpretation and re-interpretation in scientific research. The conference, therefore, aims to rethink him and his work in light of contemporary historiography, theology, philosophy and history.

In choosing the topics, the desire to go in depth and update the issues most debated by historiography was privileged, but also some aspects that have so far remained in the background are being proposed, such as his exegetical-theological work, his spirituality and his influence on subsequent theology as well as on the Society of Jesus. In this way we will try to suggest new incentives for reflection about the heritage of this certainly complex and multifaceted figure, providing various interpretations of his work for a fuller appreciation of the man St. Robert Bellarmine and his significance.

Scientific Commitee is formed by Dario Vitali, Henryk Pietras, Massimo Carlo Giannini, Martín M. Morales, Nicolas Steeves, Nuno da Silva Gonçalves e Scott Brodeur.
