Sonus 1 Firenze, Museo dell'Opera del Duomo

Sonus 1 Florence inaugurates the first series dedicated to the musical iconography found in Italian museums. Conceived and edited by Barbara Aniello, Sonus was created to reveal the beauty of sculptures, paintings, embroideries, frescoes and mosaics with musical themes in Italy's most beautiful cities. After Florence, there will be issues dedicated to Rome, Vatican City, Naples, Milan, Bergamo, Palermo, Padua, Viterbo, Ravenna, Tarquinia and Perugia. Conceived as a book, Sonus 1 Firenze is above all a catalogue of an itinerant and interactive itinerary that combines visual and sound. Thus, starting from the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, the route winds through the bell tower and the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, culminating in the baptistery of San Giovanni. Thanks to multimedia resources that make it possible to listen to the instruments depicted in the various monuments, visitors can not only contemplate but also hear the sound of the lutes, vielle, trumpets and cymbals depicted here. A highly specialised international scientific committee has accompanied the work of a young group of authors trained at the Pontifical Gregorian University who have restored a theological background to the works, illuminating them with a new light.
