History

For more than 25 years the Pontifical Gregorian University has promoted training in the field of the Cultural Heritage of the Church. In 1991, under the auspices of the Holy See and the CEI, the Superior Course for the Cultural Heritage of the Church was instituted at the Pontifical Gregorian Universiry for the training of priests, religious and laity destined to take on duties related to the conservation and protection of the Cultural Heritage in their respective Dioceses and Religious Orders.

In 2005, the Advanced Course was joined to the Faculty of Ecclesiastical History (founded in 1932), giving rise to the Faculty of History and Cultural Heritage of the Church, created "both to investigate and detect in its historical process the path of the Church, and studying and enhancing the historical and artistic heritage of the Christian tradition". The Faculty was structured in two departments: History of the Church and Cultural Heritage of the Church, which includes permanent, appointed and invited professors, both lay and religious, from Italian and international universities and scientific institutions.
