Scuola Sinderesi - Diploma in pratica etica: Sfide sociali e contemporanee

Now in its thirteenth year of activity, Scuola Sinderesi wishes to launch the fifth three-year cycle, dedicated to the understanding of those conflict situations that currently represent real challenges for the model of coexistence, free and democratic, that qualifies the European Union. In a globalised world, where every reality is interconnected with the rest of the planet, an in-depth analysis of certain theatres of crisis will allow an understanding of the plurality of factors and actors at play, as well as what is required for paths of fraternity and not of mutual elimination to be set in motion.

We will begin with a look at the Mediterranean, focusing on the Lebanese crisis, a crossroads of conflict or possible coexistence in the Middle East, so important and illustrative for all humanity. The multidisciplinary, individual and group approach, conducted according to the well-known "social discernment model" offered by the Sinderesi School, will allow the participants first of all to retrace, with the help of qualified experts and under the guidance of the coordinating teachers, the historical stages of the complex situation of the "Country of the cedars", to then understand its present geopolitical, sociological, institutional and religious dynamics.

Taking into account the articulated Christian and Muslim components, present in the area, and their religious and political identities, the Course, in agreement with the Centre for Interreligious Studies of the Pontifical Gregorian University, will end by offering an in-depth study, in the format of two workshops, referring to the role played by each faith in local society. In fact, after an initial meeting aimed at recalling the main contemporary political theories and exploring how they can be evaluated theologically, in the following session the seventeen Religious Communities belonging to the two majority religions in the country will be analysed individually, exploring in actu exercito the level of their Interreligious Dialogue and the task it sets itself with a view to the pacification of the country and the stabilisation of the entire area.

The volume Ciudad de Mexico: between Ancient Myth and Contemporary Complexity, published by GBPress, is available for purchase. Also in the process of being published are the fruits of the 2022/2023 edition, entitled: The Ibrid Capital: Manila and its singular culture.

The entire course is a genuine cultural laboratory structured in:

  • Workshop: 5 meetings and exchanges, for 2 hours, monthly, on Thursday evenings, led by the coordinating teachers.
  • Individual Paths: within the groups for full and 'starring' participation in joint research and discussion.
  • Plenary meetings:15 workshop hours intended for all participants and divided into five 3-hour meetings on Saturday afternoons, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., in brain storming mode, on the topics listed in the annual programme.
  • First 5 meetings: conferences aimed at providing a broad frame of reference, and an adequate 'toolbox', to explore the topic addressed during the year.
  • The research workshop: for two study mornings on Saturday to understand the complex situation of religions in the public sphere. Two professors, supported by other scholars, will focus on the particular situation of the country under analysis, offering a model for investigation.
