Academic Quality Committee


The Pontifical Gregorian University, through the Committee on academic Quality, wishes to promote a process of continuous quality improvement in services and training.

St. Ignatius’ convinction that each one can grow directs us to always do better and to do even more than what we already do. The Ignatian concept of "Magis" urges us to reach into our capacities and develop them further. This magis helps us to reflect on our traditions and values and at the same time it projects us towards new perspectives in research and academic innovation.

We hope that the whole university community will be acquainted and responsible with the processes of quality evaluation, sharing the objectives, verifying the results achieved: in short, it is necessary to create and promote a culture of quality which will deepen our identity and sense of belonging.

Quality surveys are made possible by the data obtained from the evaluation questionnaires, which are extended to the whole community at different levels and for which we need the co-responsible collaboration of each member of the University.

From 2005/2006, the evaluation of courses / seminars by students takes place every six months. It is a very useful tool for individual professors to make improvements in teaching, but also for the various Faculties / Institutes / Centers management staff in view of the recruitment of teachers and the planning of study plans. In order to monitor needs, strength and weakness points in all areas, evaluation questionnaires will be extended to all members of the university community:

  • Students satisfaction questionnaires on Faculty, cycle of studies, University in general.
  • Teachers satisfaction questionnaires on Faculty, cycle of studies, University in general.
  • Administrative Staff satisfaction questionnaires.


In the Gregorian University we frequently work for the Ignatian "Magis", which marks out the foundations of quality in every sector. Indeed, we are very interested in any suggestion and complaint that can help us to improve our services, for which the following form is available:


The adherence of the Holy See to the Bologna Process (which took place on 19 September 2003 during the meeting of the Ministers for Education of the European Union in Berlin) was also influenced by their intention to pursue and achieve certain objectives established by the Bologna Process, among which we find "the attention to quality as an intrinsic and necessary value for research and innovation within the university".

The Congregation for Catholic Education reiterates the importance of creating and promoting a culture of quality by all those concerned and involved in research and teaching, in services and in the management of ecclesiastical academic institutions (CEC, The culture of quality , Vatican City 2011, Preface by Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski).

The culture of quality does not refer to a single activity problem, result or scope, but more in general it refers to the processes to be used to manage the responsibility, autonomy and inspection of the whole institution in its fidelity to the vision and mission according to its Statutes. Evaluation is a process that is built together, whose value consists not only in the final judgment, but also and above all in the process carried out to produce it.

The areas recognized as an object of quality are: research, training offer, training resources available to students, effectiveness and efficiency of training activity, the proper functioning of structures.

The Gregorian University carried out a detailed work on quality, the Self-Evaluation Report (RAV), required by Avepro, the Agency for the Promotion and Quality Evaluation. Avepro was established by the Holy See with the aim of stimulating the quality of research and teaching in ecclesiastical academic institutions and value their compliance with international standards.

All members of university community worked together for this Report. All the academic and administrative activities, procedures and operational processes were carefully examined. From 15 to 18 June 2014 Avepro sent a commission of experts to evaluate the quality of our University. The Commission was composed of: Prof. Dr. Léonce Bekemans (president), Jean Monnet Chair ad personam and Academic Coordinator of the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence, University of Padua, President of Ryckevelde (European and International Center of Active Citizenship, Bruges / B ); Prof. Emmanuel Gabellieri, professor of Philosophy, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Human Sciences, Catholic University of Lyon / Fr; Prof. Juan Pedro Montañes Gomez, Director of Quality and Planning, Pontifical University Comillas, Madrid, ICADE; Prof. Don Roberto Repole, professor of ecclesiology and theology, Theological Faculty of Turin, President of the Theological Association; and Dr. Antonella Anastasi, graduating in International Relations at the LUMSA University, Rome.

The Final Evaluation Report of our University is available on the Avepro website. This evaluation has strongly contributed to the improvement of our University and has allowed us to carry out a more in-depth institutional reflection on our priorities and on the paths to achieve them, so as to be able to respond better to our mission, vision and objectives, at the service of Church and society in general.
