CHIESE NON PIU' CHIESE #nolongerchurches
#nolongerchurches is a photography competition that wants you to discover, photograph and share images on Instagram of Catholic worship buildings that have been decommissioned and put to new use.
The issue of abandonment and reuse of churches is not new in history, but today with the advance of secularization there is a greater awareness of the artistic, historical and symbolical value of sacred buildings and the works of art inside them. The initiative hopes to document through photographs the new situation and raise public interest.
The competition accompanies the international congress Doesn’t God dwell here anymore? on the Decommissioning places of worship and integrated management of ecclesiastical cultural heritage, being organized by the Pontifical Council for Culture-Department of Cultural Heritage, the Italian Episcopal Conference and its National Office for Ecclesiastical Cultural Heritage and Worship Buildings, the Pontifical Gregorian University and its Faculty of History and Cultural Heritage of the Church with its Department of Cultural Heritage of the Church. It takes place in Rome, 29-30 November 2018.
The competition is organized in collaboration with the Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni Architettonici e del Paesaggio, of Rome’s Sapienza University, and the magazines Arte Cristiana, Casabella e Chiesa Oggi. A jury of experts will select the images to be exhibited within a photographic exhibition set up during the congress in the Quadriportico of the Pontifical Gregorian University.
From July 10th, 2018 to October 15th, 2018.
Participation in the competition implies complete acceptance of the contest rules.
