Content: This course will provide an overview of the 60-year theological output of the distinguished U.S. theologian, Father (later Cardinal) Avery Dulles SJ. The intellectual dimensions of his path to the Catholic faith will be traced. His contribution to theological methodology will be examined, paying special attention to his journey from the neo-Scholasticism in which he was trained to the ‘Models’ methodology for which he became fa- mous. His writings on ecclesiology, faith, ecumenism and the place of theology in Church and society will be a major focus. Objective: To gain an in-depth knowledge of some of Dulles’s major writings and to become familiar with his manner of doing theology.
