Opening of the visits to the new Restoration Laboratory

On 24 March, the new Manuscript Diagnostic and Restoration Laboratory was inaugurated, where research activities on the documents of the Pontifical Gregorian University's Historical Archives will take place. This new space, housed in Palazzo Lucchesi, was necessary to flank the work of digitising the works already underway with the preservation of the original documents - the only true witnesses of the past - in their concrete materiality.

Starting in May, it will be possible to visit this new Laboratory dedicated to research and training in the field of manuscript conservation and restoration. The invitation is open to specialists, students and the curious who want to get closer to a world of papers and inks that we are in danger of losing.

Visitors will discover the long history of damage that can be read on documents and how they represent an important source of information. It will also be possible to watch the restoration work in progress and to discuss diagnostics and restoration issues with one of our restorers.

To take part in the laboratory visit, you must fill in the online form “Aperto per Restauri”, indicating your preferred days and times. The duration of the visit is 1 hour and confirmation of participation will be sent to the email indicated in the form.
