Thanks to the agreement signed on 22 January 2024 between the University of Perugia and the Pontifical Gregorian University, the pathway for obtaining a double degree in Philosophy is now active. A student who chooses this path, and is deemed qualified, will thus be able to simultaneously obtain a degree in Philosophy (LM78 Degree Class) and the Pontifical Licentiate in Philosophy. To do this, the student will have to obtain a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 45 credits (ECTS) at the partner institution.

"This is an important achievement because it will allow our students to access the competition classes for teaching in Italian schools," notes Jesuit Father Gaetano Piccolo, dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at the Gregorian University. "Our hope is that our young people, seminarians, but also priests and religious, can take advantage of this opportunity that allows them to combine the university education offered by our University, permeated by Ignatian pedagogy and spirituality, and the possibility of entering the world of work".

"As the Department of Philosophy, Social Sciences, Humanities and Education, we look with great attention at double degrees, particularly in the master's degree courses, because they enrich our proposal with other voices, perspectives, points of view, research and study," adds Prof. Marco Moschini, coordinator of the degree course in Philosophy and Ethics of Relations, as well as the contact person for the double degree with the University of Perugia. "For us, it is a great enrichment to have a relationship with the Faculty of Philosophy of the Gregorian University, which allows us to follow avenues of discussion, especially on metaphysical issues, which are an important part of our degree course. The opportunity for our students will be to access a point of view that can also be secularly discussed and critically reconsidered. In addition to this first step, we hope to further develop our study relations with the Gregoriana".

Inaugurated in Rome on 6 November 1553, the Faculty of Philosophy is one of the first and oldest faculties of the Gregoriana, which counted Athanasius Kircher and Francisco Suárez among its professors. Among its most recent exponents are Roberto Busa, Bernard Lonergan, Joseph De Finance, Peter Henrici and Paul Gilbert.

A characteristic method from the very beginning was the integral reading of some classical texts of the philosophical tradition, a method that is still in force today thanks to the "Pragmateia" guided workshops. The Faculty of Philosophy at the Gregorian University has also introduced innovative educational offers, such as the "Philosophical Pilgrimages" that allow students to travel to the places where Western philosophy has been shaped, from Greece to Germany. Upcoming events include a study day on 20 March on artificial intelligence, with the contribution of Prof. Paolo Benanti.
