Asking for peace, building solidarity

In his recent Letter, Rector Nuno da Silva Gonçalves, SJ invites the University Community to join "in prayer for peace and to express our closeness to the students, professors, faculty, and administrative staff who come from Ukraine and other war-torn countries or who have family members or friends living in places that are the scene of war actions." These tragic events "have undermined peaceful coexistence among peoples and are a daily source of concern throughout the world. As an international academic community, we work every day, all together, in the service of the universal Church, faithful to the intuition of St. Ignatius who conceived the Roman College as Universitas omnium Nationum."

The Pontifical Gregorian University, as a member of the European Federation of Catholic Universities (FUCE), also shares the message of solidarity signed by its president, Rev. Prof. Michael Mullaney.
Requests for help and support from the world community also come to us from the Catholic University of Ukraine.

At this time, the University Chaplaincy invites people to celebrate daily Mass using the formularies for Peace and Justice. Accepting the Holy Father's invitation to inaugurate the Lenten journey with special attention and intention for peace in Ukraine, the Ash Wednesday Mass was subsequently accompanied by prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. An organized moment of prayer in the quadriporticus will take place every class day at 12:15 p.m., in front of the monumental image of Christ in the quadriporticus, lighting the lamps of peace and reciting the Preghiera semplice of St. Francis of Assisi.

Some academic units have also animated prayer initiatives.

The Student Relations Office is also collecting basic necessities - food and medicine - to send to Ukraine. You can deliver your contribution to the Office (L001) during opening hours, or leave it at the container provided for this purpose.
