FUCE Meeting at the Gregorian University

On Friday 8 April, the Board of the European Federation of Catholic Universities (FUCE) met in the Aula del Senato, following the meeting held on 7 April at the Libera Università Maria Santissima Assunta (LUMSA).

The FUCE was created in 1991 with the conviction of being able to offer anew contribution to the network of Catholic universities, building on the positive path of European integration, now close to the achievement of the European Union. At the end of the 1990s, the FUCE conducted a comparative study that revealed the wealth and commonalities between the different Catholic universities in Europe. It thus showed the need to strengthen existing links, even after the implementation of the Bologna Process, which since June 1999 aimed at making academic qualifications of European universities comparable and encouraging the mobility of students, teachers and researchers. EFCU brings together Catholic universities in Europe and Lebanon.

The Pontifical Gregorian University is a member of FUCE and its Rector, Father Nuno da Silva Gonçalves S.J., is a member of the Board representing the Conference of Rectors of Roman Pontifical Universities and Institutions (CRUIPRO). In addition to the President, Rev. Prof. Michael Mullaney (St. Patrick's College of Maynooth) and the Vice President, R.P. Michel Jalakh (Université Antonine), the Board is composed of Prof. Gennaro Iasevoli (LUMSA), Prof. Thérèse Lebrun (Université Catholique de Lille), Pr. Sophia Opatska (Ukrainian Catholic University), Fr. Grégory Woimbee (Institut Catholique de Toulouse), and the Secretary Prof. Franck Violet (Université Catholique de Lyon).
