In memory - Giorgia Salatiello

 

On Thursday 3 November 2022, Giorgia Salatiello, Emerita Professor of the Faculty of Philosophy, passed away. The funeral will be celebrated on Saturday 5 November, at 11:00 a.m., at the Church of Santa Maria Regina Apostolorum (via Giuseppe Ferrari 1 - Quartiere Della Vittoria, Rome). Fr. Sandro Barlone, S.J. will preside over the ceremony. "We commend Prof. Salatiello to the Lord," Rector Lewis wrote to the University community, "deeply grateful for her service to the Church, her care for students and her teaching over many years at our university".

Prof. Salatiello was born in Civitavecchia on 9 September 1950 and graduated in Philosophy from La Sapienza - University of Rome in 1974. She enrolled at the Gregorian Institute of Religious Sciences and obtained a Diploma in Religious Sciences in 1982. Later, she enrolled in the Faculty of Philosophy where, in 1993, she obtained her Licentiate and in 1996 obtained her Doctorate with a dissertation entitled L'autocoscienza come riflessione originaria del soggetto su sé in San Tommaso d'Aquino (Ed. PUG, 1996).

Winner of a scholarship from the National Research Council for the field of Sociology of Education, Industrial Sociology and Sociology of Labour from 1974 to 1976 and from 1978 to 1985, she was a student at the Faculty of Statistical, Demographic and Actuarial Sciences at La Sapienza - University of Rome. At the same University she was a lecturer at the Chair of Philosophy of History in the Faculty of Humanities from 1974/1975 to 1977/1978. Since 1988 she has been an official at the Ministry of Education, serving in the Studies and Planning Office.

In 1992 she began teaching at the Gregorian as a Lecturer in the Institute of Religious Sciences, and was later appointed Adjunct Professor in 1994 and Extraordinary Professor in 1997. At the Institute of Spirituality, she was also coordinator of the Working Group on Ignatian Spirituality and the Transcendental Method. In 2001, she was appointed as Invited Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, where she was appointed Extraordinary Professor in 2006. In the same Faculty, she was appointed Ordinary Professor in 2009 and finally Emerita Professor in 2020.
