On the afternoon of Monday, 4 October, the Mass for the Inauguration of the Academic Year 2020-2021, the 471st year since the foundation of the Roman College, was celebrated at the Church of St Ignatius in Campo Marzio. On the occasion of the Ignatian Year, the solemn celebration was presided over by Fr Arturo Sosa Abascal, General Superior of the Society of Jesus and Vice-Chancellor of the Pontifical Gregorian University.

In compliance with the norms of distancing and the maximum capacity of the church, access was allowed by nominal invitation to a representation of the university community. Everyone was able to join in the prayer by participating in the Mass via live streaming on the University's YouTube channel.
