Joint course on Safeguarding

For the first time, two pontifical universities - the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) - are collaborating to offer their students an introductory session on Safeguarding. The initiative aims to enhance the awareness of our students to help them create a safer environment, today and tomorrow.

The session “Safeguarding: Mission and Commitment of the Church” will consist of three classes, offered in English, Italian and Spanish between late September and early October by the Institute of Anthropology of the Gregorian University. The theme of safeguarding is introduced by following the three moments of the learning process “seeing - judging/discerning - acting”. Participants will in fact

• to see, i.e. realistically perceive and evaluate the dimensions, nature and characteristics of the abuse, as well as its consequences on the sufferer, his/her family members, the social environment and the role of institutions;

• to judge/discern, i.e. to take a personal position with respect to basic theological reflections and canonical norms on victim protection, prosecution and the mission of the Church;

• to act, i.e. to know the viable options and exercise the will to implement them: how to prevent abuse, what helps those affected and how to deal with abusers.

In addition to a general introduction, students will be encouraged to go deeper individually. To take part in the training you need to register via the Eventbrite platform.
