New Safeguarding Chair at the Institute of Anthropology

The Guido Fluri Foundation has endowed a Chair for Evaluation in the Context of Safeguarding at the Pontifical Gregorian University. The new Chair is part of the Institute of Anthropology (IADC) and will contribute to research into the effectiveness of prevention programmes against sexual abuse.

The Swiss-based Guido Fluri Foundation is particularly active in the field of child protection. This is the primary objective of the Guido Fluri Foundation Chair: to promote international and interdisciplinary studies according to scientific standards, and to encourage adequate evaluation of the effectiveness of prevention and intervention measures. The active involvement of those affected by abuse will be central to this process.

"For every case of abuse that we can prevent, the work is worthwhile. The prevention work must protect, but for this, demonstrably effective programmes are necessary. An adequate evaluation can provide information on whether and how such programmes work best. The new chair is researching what such an evaluation should look like", says Dr. Guido Fluri.

According to Prof. Zollner, "In Safeguarding, there has been a lack of adequate review of the effectiveness of prevention and intervention measures up to now. The new Chair of the Guido Fluri Foundation is intended to fill this gap and thus contribute to a more effective protection of children and young people".
