Safeguarding and formation for students

Established at the Pontifical Gregorian University,
starting from A.A. 2023-2024, a mandatory training course
for the attainment of Academic Degrees

The Pontifical Gregorian University has decided to strengthen the formation of its students on the themes of safeguarding and care for human dignity through the establishment of a course whose attendance will be considered a necessary requirement for the completion of the Baccalaureate, Licentiate and Doctorate academic degrees.

Starting in the 2023-2024 academic year, students enrolled in these programs at the University must attend a Safeguarding course offered by the Institute of Anthropology. Each student will be able to choose the date and language of the training course of 3 hours in the new academic calendar. The course does not award credits (ECTS) and does not include an examination; a certificate of attendance may be issued at the request of students.

The University intends to promote a formation that takes into account the intrinsic relationship between faith, reason and culture, and cares that students, in the course of their studies, acquire the tools that will allow them to be responsible and mature participants of their own formation,” explains the Rector of the Pontifical Gregorian University, Fr. Mark A. Lewis S.J. “Through this initiative we want to reaffirm the care we wish to have for the person and his or her dignity. Such care cannot only be limited to the protection of the vulnerable, but also requires a commitment by the University to provide students with the tools to empower and encourage them to be authentic individuals of their own lifestyle in the social and ecclesial context”.
