Theology and Sinodality / Closure of Call for papers

The Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Gregorian University, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Synod, intends to take up the call addressed to the whole Church convened in a Synod by proposing an International Conference on the theme “Theology Responding to the Challenge of Synodality” (April 27-29, 2023).

The Conference will gather different experiences and visions on synodality that come from the synodal processes in the five continents and will examine the characteristics of a theology articulating its vocation to synodality. It aims to identify paths for a renewed theology in order to lay the foundations for the implementation of a synodal method in theology.

In light of this synodal spirit, the Scientific Committee of the Conference invited scholars to submit papers – by 31 March 2023 – for a possible presentation within the Conference context and for future publication in the Conference Proceedings. The papers will present a question or topic related to the themes chosen for the conference:

  • 1. Imagining a synodal theology
  • 2. A theology from and for synodality
  • 3. Synodality and transdisciplinarity
  • 4. Synodality and Ecumenical Dialogue

The authors who have been offered the opportunity to give a brief presentation of their contribution within the context of the Conference have already been contacted personally.

The scientific committee will also select from all the approved paper proposals those authors who will be asked to write an article to be published in the Conference Proceedings. Notification of the papers selected for publication will be given at a later date.

The scientific committee would like to thank all those who responded to the call by sending their submissions. The response was abundant. The authors of all papers are warmly welcome to participate in the conference by attending and participating in discussions open to the public.
