- Inaugurazione della mostra: Il 400° anniversario del martirio di San Giosafat Kuncewycz
The 400th anniversary of the martyrdom of St. Josaphat Kuncewycz. May they all be one (Jn 17:21)
Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome
October 20, 2023, 8 p.m.
The exhibition is dedicated to the anniversary of the martyrdom of St. Jehoshaphat Kuncewycz (c. 1580 - 1623), apostle of Christian unity. St. Josaphat, a monk of the Order of St. Basil the Great, dedicated his life to the search for unity among Christians. The life and works of the saint of the Eastern Rite Catholic Church span Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland, and Belarus, testifying to the Eastern Rite Catholic Church's historical ties to Western Europe and, in particular, to Rome as its spiritual seat. In 1623, St. Jehoshaphat was martyred in Vitebsk. In 1643 he was beatified and in 1867 he was canonized. By the will of Pope St. John XXIII, since Nov. 25, 1963, the body of St. Josaphat Kuncewycz has rested under the altar of St. Basil the Great in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
