"L'ecologia integrale: un'opportunità per la teologia?"

In Laudato Si' Pope Francis identified the current environmental crisis as the key sign of the times and proposes that promoting an "integral ecology"  should be central to the mission of the Church today.  In this Giornata di studi we respond to the teaching of Pope Francis in two ways that are appropriate to the discipline of Fundamental Theology.

First, we stress that a concern for integral ecology amplifies a fundamental question about theological method. Do we consider the signs of the times as a source of theology? How can theology help direct the action of the Church in history? If we accept that the signs of the times are, indeed, a source of theology, how should a concern for integral ecology affect how theologians conduct the various, traditional, sub-disciplines of theology? It is this question of method that has led us to formulate the title for our gathering: "Ecologia Integrale, un'opportunità per la teologia?" The second characteristic of this Goirnata di studi is related to the fact that, for more than a year now, the Department of Fundamental Theology has been integrating a concern for integral ecology into its course offerings.

As a result, instead of repeating what professors are already saying in courses, in this giornata di studi we highlight the contributions of students, both male and female. After a short contribution from an invited speaker, Dr. Paolo Conversi, we feature the contributions of students from Ukraine, Mexico, and Italy, and proceed to discuss the theme in small groups as well as plenary sessions.
