SL2026  LEADERSHIP II: GOVERNANCE IN THE CHURCH AND AFFILIATED INSTITUTIONS: LEGISLATIVE FRAMEWORKS AND BEST PRACTICES (A.Y. 2023/2024)

Objective: Offer the participants a deep knowledge of the content of “governing” as different function from managing or leading. Provide them with frameworks and tools that allows them:

to design a governance structure of an institution / apostolic work,
and to develop their role as members of governing bodies.

Contents: Orientating principles inspired in the Ignatian spirituality based on the Catholic Church tradition. Designing a board: functions, structure, composition, processes. Understanding the logic of a whole institution. Understanding the strategy. The logics of governance. Basic competences for developing the role of trustee or director (another way of dealing with strategy, finance, operations, ESG issues...). The logics of governance (group dynamics, group and personal biases). Discerning in common.
Methodology: During the course different methodologies will be used: magistral classes; cases; work in groups around real problems and challenges; test and other pedagogical tool as working in a critical mode with AI.
Means of evaluation: There will be two alternative ways of assessment:

Short essay where the participant will propose a governing body design for an apostolic work.
\li720 of self-recommendations based in the course content and debates to better develop the role of trustee or director of a governing body.
