Useful Information

Biblical culture

All candidates for the Licentiate curriculum are required to take an examination in “Biblical Culture”, which is designed to test the student's general preparation in the field of biblical studies. The examination is written and is normally held at the beginning of the first or second semester of the first year of the Licence (at the student's choice). Programme and bibliography can be consulted in the Documents and Resources section. Enrolment is automatic and therefore does not require the completion of any formalities. If the exam is not passed, a second chance or an alternative paper is offered, at the examining professor's discretion.

Hebrew and Greek qualifying exams

The Licentiate in Biblical Theology includes, among its prerequisites, basic knowledge of Hebrew and Greek (levels 1-2). Those who do not have these at the time of enrolment have the possibility to learn the two languages during the years of the Licence. Those, on the other hand, who already have an adequate knowledge of these languages must take the qualifying exam at the end of September (for those enrolling at the beginning of the academic year) or at the end of January (for those enrolling in the second semester). The student's intention to take these exams should be reported, by the student, to the Secretary of the Faculty by the deadline indicated in the Program of Studies. As access prerequisites, they do not confer ECTS.

Number of courses allowed

Those attending Hebrew 1-2 (EB 2012) and Greek 1-2 (GR2012) are allowed to enrol in only one course, to be chosen from the Common Courses, in addition to enrolling in the Bible Methodology course. Those who take only one of the language courses for beginners, in addition to enrolling in the Bible Methodology course, are allowed to take a maximum of three courses. Those who have passed both Hebrew 1-2 and Greek 1-2 are permitted to enrol in a maximum of seven courses, including Seminars.
