TD2257  A READING IN SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY (A.A. 2021/2022)

Contenuti: “Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands
from you an accounting for the hope that is in you” (1 Pt 3:15b, NRSV).

Fides quaerens intellectum, the famous dictum by both Augustine

(354-430, On the Trinity 15.2.2) and Anselm of Canterbury (c. 1033-1109,
Chapter 1 of Proslogion), build on this statement to arrive at a widely acceptable
definition of theology. This course focuses, among others, on the main
themes of Systematic Theology as they have been developed in history. To
do so diverse theologians, namely, Bernard Prusak, Catherine Mowry La-
Cugna, David Tracy, Edward Schillebeeckx, Francis Schüssler Fiorenza,
Paul Tillich, Ted Peters, Wolfhart Pannenberg, Yves Marie-Joseph Congar,
among others, will be explored.

Obiettivi: To familiarize students with the rich tradition of theology
and Systematic Theology in particular.

Metodo di insegnamento: Lectures, reading and discussions. Students
will be required to read a weekly designated text and write a one-page summary
of the same. They will also be asked to lead a session of discussion.and
discussions.

Modalità di valutazione: Discussion in class and a final research paper.
