Objective: To improve a more aware and profound knowledge of Latin Grammar in order to lead and accompany each student towards a personal and independent understanding and translation of Ecclesiastical Texts and Documents that he/she shall use as a Canonist.
Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course, students should be able to know morphology and syntax, translating difficult Latin texts of Canon Law.
Content: 1. A Summary of the Functions of Cases’ System. – 2. Syntax of the Verb: a) Meanings of Tenses; b) Meanings of Finite and Infinite Forms. – 3. Sequence(s) of Sentences. – 4. Form of Subordinate Clauses. – 5. Reading and Translation of Texts and Documents (Rotal Decisions, Decrees of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, etc.).
Methodology: Quick review of grammar; correction of personal documents; review of the topics presented; involvement of students during the lessons in the form of questions and answers.
Learning Assessment and Evaluation: The grammatical knowledge, language skills and translation skills acquired will be constantly monitored and assessed throughout the year, then evaluated in the only final exam in the form of a written test. The candidate shall demonstrate that he/she has understood the subject studied and that he/she is able to translate the proposed text.
